I saw this painting on the wall in Magic Bar Stockholm. If you look close enough, it turns out this magician is using an unusual method to levitate the woman.

Magic bar Stockholm visit 4 of 4

My last visit to Magic Bar Stockholm during my vacation in Sweden was also on a day with a stage show. I got to see the very young magician Carl Stanley and the mentalist Micke Askernäs. I saw Carl Stanley walk around the tables and do some card magic. Micke Askernäs did some fork bending at some tables.

スウェーデン旅行の最後のマジックバーストックホルムの時にまたステージショー見れた。若手マジシャンカール・スタンリーとメンタリストのミケ・アスケルネースがステージマジックもテーブルマジックもやった。

Carl Stanley

Carl Stanley was the first to go on stage. He was very funny. He kept saying things like: "Hi, I am a magician. But I would have preferred to have a girlfriend instead." He did a lot of gags. I liked it when he brought forth a wooden duck that picks one card from a deck of cards (a pretty expensive prop) and had a spectator shuffle a deck of cards. He then put the cards in the duck prop and had the duck take one card. He then asked a spectator to "name any card you want". They named the nine of clubs or something, and he looked at the card the duck had picked and said: "Amazing! This is the same card." Then he never showed that card to anyone, and put away the duck.

最初にステージを出たのがカール・スタンリーだった。面白い人だった。「カールと申します。マジシャンです。マジック出来るより彼女出来るといいけどなぁ…」とか、ギャグいっぱい言っていた。ギャグネタのマジックも多かった。カード当ての木製のアヒルを出して、観客にカードを混ぜて貰った。カードをアヒルの前に置いて、アヒルが1枚だけ取った。「好きなカード何でもいい、言って下さい」と観客に言って「クラブの９」と言われた。「アヒルのカードと同じだ！すげー！」と言って、カードを見せないでアヒルとトランプを閉めた。

He had a very nice presentation for the magic trick where two spectators each hold 10 cards but then 3 cards mysteriously disappear from one spectator, who ends up with seven, and appears with the other spectator, who thus has 13. The idea was to determine who was the coolest person. Do you know how to measure how cool someone is? No? When I was in elementary school, the guy with the most Pokemon cards was the coolest. So he gave the spectators Pokemon cards to hold on to, and the one that ended up with the most Pokemon cards was obviously the coolest.

喋りが基本的に面白かった。観客2人がトランプ10枚づつを持っているのに、1人のトランプから3枚が消えて、もう1人のトランプが13枚になる有名なマジックの話が面白かった。2人の観客をステージに呼んで、「誰が一番かっこいい？」と聞いた。「人のかっこよさ、どうやってはかるか、知っている？小学生の時に、ポケモンを一番沢山持っている人が一番かっこいいと分かった」って説明して、ポケモンカードを20枚取り出した。その有名なマジックをやって、13枚を持っている人が一番かっこいい人だという結果になった。

Micke Askernäs

Micke Askernäs did mostly classical mentalism things. He started with some spoon bending, and had a woman come up on stage with him since the spoon was too small for people in the back to see, so she was there to confirm that nothing suspicious was going on. He was also funny, and asked her to hit him on the forehead with the spoon to confirm that it was a hard normal spoon. He also said that since many people tell him they think he has some special chemicals on his hands to help make the spoon soft, she should lick his hands to check that there were no suspicious chemicals there.

メンタリストのミケ・アスケルネースが割とクラシックなメンタリズムを沢山見せてくれた。最初はスプーン曲げをやった。小さくて、遠いテーブルまで見れないから女の人をステージにあがってもらった。「怪しいことしていないのを他の人の為に確認してくださいね」って。マジシャンのおでこをスプーンで強く叩いて下さいって。曲がりやすいスプーンではないよねって。他に「手に何かの化学的なのを付けて、スプーンを柔らかくしているでしょう？」とよく言われるから、科学的なものが手に付いていないかを確認する為に私の手を舐めて下さいって言ったが女の人が舐めなかった（笑）。

He also did a tossed out deck routine, the John Archer version of Kolossal killer, and a lot of billet work. I liked his idea of what to do when blindfolded. He taped his face with duct tape so he could not see, and had someone grab a bunch of cards from a deck. He then proceeded to name all the cards they were holding. When thanking the spectator and helping them off the stage, he also stuck all the tape he removed from his face on their back, which was pretty funny. He ended with a Russian Roulette routine with huge staplers.

他にTossed out deckやKolossal Killerもやっていた。小さな紙に地名や人の名前を書いて貰って、当てるマジックも沢山やっていた。目隠しの使い方が面白かった。顔にテープを沢山はって、見えない様にしてからカードを何枚か取って貰った。観客が持っているカードを全部言い当てた。一緒にやっていた観客がステージから降りた時に「ありがとーね」と言って、観客の背中に使っていたテープを全部つけちゃったし、笑。最後にでかいホチキスみたいなものでロシアン・ルーレットをやった。

After the show, I bought a bunch of bookmarks to use as gifts. They look either like normal old photos or like monsters, depending on the angle. I also talked a bit to the owner of Magic Bar Stockholm, who thought it was funny that I was there 4 days in one week. He asked me if I wanted to do magic there the next time I am in Sweden, and suggested perhaps doing table hopping on a Tuesday or something. That would be great fun, I think, since I have done almost no magic in front of Swedish people.

ショーの後、お土産も買った。角度によって絵が変わるものを沢山買った。マジックバーストックホルムのオーナーと話したら、1週間に4回も来るのがうけたみたい。またスウェーデンに来たら、ここで2日間とか働いてくれない？って誘われたし。楽しそうだね。スウェーデン人にあまりマジック見せたことがない。どういう見方するか、気になるね。

Magic bar Stockholm visit 3 of 4

My third visit to Magic Bar Stockholm during my brief vacation in Sweden was on a Wednesday. There was no stage show, but there was a special close up show in one of the smaller rooms (and of course there was magic at the tables too, as always).

スウェーデン旅行の3回目のマジックバーストックホルムは水曜日になった。ステージショーがなかったが小さな部屋にクローズアップショーがあった。テーブルでテーブルマジックも毎日あるから、それも勿論あった。

Fredrik Ahlbertz was the magician of the night. He showed me some very nice versions of "matrix" (4 coins under 4 cards magically move to different places). He did some card magic too. I especially liked when he dealt 4 cards and then suddenly there turned out to be a big coin under each card.

Fredrik Ahlbertzというマジシャンがクローズアップマジックを色々見せてくれた。テーブルでコインマジックのマトリックスの色々なバージョンを披露した。カードマジックも見せてくれた。例えば、4枚配って、配ったカードの下にでかいコイン4つ現れた。

At the close up show, I got a seat towards the back, but since the chairs had different heights that was not a problem. Again, there was quite a lot of very nice coin magic. There was also card magic, including a color changing deck and an invisible palm routine.

クローズアップショーの時に後ろの方の席になったが段差があるから、全然大丈夫だった。色々なコインマジックがあった。結構凄かった。カードマジックもあった。デックのカラチェーンジやインビジブルパーム。

I noticed a straitjacket on the wall together with a flyer for a guy I know as Magic Brian. I once saw him do a straitjacket escape in Stockholm, and he was hysterically funny in general.

I also saw Anders Moden, a Swedish magician who is most well known in Japan for inventing a was to make an empty and crushed can of CocaCola come back to normal shape and be full of soda again. He recognized me since we met twice in Magic Bar Stockholm in 2011. He invited me to sit with him and another magician and eat my food at their table. Later, even more magicians showed up and I got to hear a lot of stories from the magic community in Sweden, which was interesting (since I learned magic after moving to Japan, I know almost nothing about magic from a Swedish perspective).

他に、コーラの復活のマジックを考えたクリエーターのマジシャンのAnders Modenさんにも会えた。2011年にもマジックバーストックホルムで会った。覚えてくれた。Modenさんのテーブルに誘われて、そこにいたマジシャンたちと一緒に食べることになった。遅い時間にマジシャンがさらに増えてきた。スウェーデンのマジシャンの話を色々聞いて、楽しかった。日本に来てからマジックを覚えたから、スウェーデンのマジックに関して、何も知らない。

Magic bar Stockholm visit 2 of 4

On my second visit to Magic Bar Stockholm this trip, I had my brother and his wife with me. They had been there once before, but that was a long long time ago. This evening, Tom Stone was doing a stage show, and he had mentioned the day before that he was working on a new routine that seemed fun.

今回の2回目のマジックバーストックホルムの時に弟夫婦と3人で行った。弟たちも昔1回行ったことある。トムストーンがステージショーをやる予定だった。前の日に新しいマジックを今作っていて、ステージでやるって言っていた。

We got there in time to have dinner, and I ordered different food this evening and it was great again. I also got a spoon that looked like someone had used it in a spoon bending routine and then tried to straighten it out.

晩御飯を食べる余裕がある時間に来たから前回と違うものを頼んだ。美味しかった。僕が貰ったスプーンはどう見ても誰かがスプーン曲げに使って、適当に戻した感じだった、笑。

Robert Ace

While we were waiting, I saw a young guy playing with a deck of cards. He looked very much like a guy I saw do magic on the street in Stockholm on another visit to Sweden. I spoke to him at that time and he mentioned that he was going to go to Japan to train some Japanese martial art. Looking closer, it did indeed seem to be Robert Ace this time too.

テーブルで待っている時に奥の部屋に若いお兄さんがカードで遊んでいた。前にスウェーデンに来た時にストリートマジックをやっていたお兄さんと似ているねと思った。その時にちょっと話して、日本に格闘技を習いに行くって言われた。よく見たら、同じロバート・エイスだった。

While we were waiting for our food, Tom Stone came to our table and did some magic. He also talked to us for a bit. He did a nice routine with a coin and a pen, and a trick with a deck of cards with names written on the backs. He also said that he was nervous about his new thing that he planned to do on stage that he had only performed two or three times before.

食べ物を待っている時にトムストーンがテーブルマジックを見せてくれた。コインとペンのマジックが面白いなぁ。裏に色々な人の名前が書いてあるトランプを使ったマジックもやった。マジック以外の話も色々してくれた。ステージで新ネタをやるから緊張しているって。

Later, Robert Ace came by our table too, and I said that I remembered meeting him. He also said: "Ah, and you are the one from Japan?", so I guess maybe someone in the Magic Bar Stockholm staff had tipped him off that the strange guy from Japan who comes every night was here again. But he turned and looked at my sister in law, and directed the question at her. She is also from Japan, so he was not wrong. Then he said something like: "I can speak a little bit of Japanese, but I am not very good at it", in Japanese to her. Well, so can my brother, and I can speak a bit too, haha.

その後、ロバートエイスもうちのテーブルに来た。僕が前に会っているよと言った。彼が「あ、日本から来た人だよね」と言い出したから、マジックバーのスタッフに毎晩来ている日本に住んでいる変な人があそこにいるよって言われたかなと思ったが僕ではなく、弟の嫁に言っていた。まぁ、確かに弟の嫁も日本から来ている（日本人なんだ）。その後、ちょっと下手な日本語で「日本語ちょっと話せる。上手ではないけど」と言ったし。うん、うちのテーブルの人も、皆話せるよ、ｗ。

Tom Stone did some of his famous routines on stage. He did a coin routine ending with the production of a bottle, he asked a spectator to join him on stage and did his cups and balls routine for her, he did a "pretentious rope routine" (very funny), and he did his new thing. He also used the "select a random way to greet the spectator" which ended up having him hug her, which is a trick that was also used by other people on stage in Magic Bar Stockholm. I was also completely fooled by the cups and balls and did not see the shoe appear on the table, even though I have seen this routine (on video) many times, haha.

ステージでトムストーンが自分の有名なネタを色々見せた。コインのマジックで最後にボトルが出てくるやつとか、ステージにお客さん1人呼んで、カップ＆ボールもやった。最後に面白いロープマジックもやった。新ネタのマジックも面白かった。お客さんにどうやって挨拶するか、サイコロで決めるマジックもトムストーンの本に載っているネタもやった。そのネタは他のマジシャンもよく使っていた。カップ＆ボールを何回も動画で見ているのに、靴がテーブルに来た時全然気づかなかった、気持ち良く引っかかった、ｗ。

His new routine was very funny. He had two spectators on stage with him and everyone of them had a cigar box with something in it. One spectator had a deck of cards, one had a book, and Tom Stone had an empty box. The were also marked with colored squares, so you could tell which box belonged to whom. Then he put a Post-It sticker over this square on his own box, and said that now since we cannot see the color, we cannot be sure whom this box belongs to. Which in some sense makes sense, but since the spectators were holding on to their boxes and no one had touched the box after he covered the color, it might be reasonable to suspect that the box was still the red box belonging to Tom Stone... He said things like: "So, as far as we know, this could be the blue box. That was your box. And it had a deck of cards in it", and when opening the box it did indeed have cards in it. There were lots of other things going on, and a very mysterious ending. It used many different things, like something like the "Pegasus Page" trick, to achieve some very entertaining.

新ネタのマジックも面白かった。お客さん2人とシガーボックスを使ったマジックだった。シュールな喋りで、僕が凄い好きだった。色々な有名なネタを使って面白いルーティンを作ったって感じだった。

After Tom Stone finished, the mentalist Ray Matson also did a stage show. This was pretty much the same as the night before (that I also saw).

トムストーンの後、メンタリストのレイ・マットソンもステージショーをやった。前の日と同じだった。

After all the magic, the owner of Magic Bar Stockholm also took us on a tour of the places, pointing out interesting details. There were chairs bought from some antique shop that had been sat on by famous people, there were lots of optical illusions and trick art, and much much more.

ショーが終わってから、マジックバーのオーナーが店のツアーみたいに、色々な面白いところも見せてくれた。目の錯覚やトリックアートがいっぱいある。有名人も使っていたアンティークの椅子とかもあるみたい。ツアーも面白かった。

In October I went to Sweden and I managed to visit the Magic Bar Stockholm several times. There is no house magician in Magic Bar Stockholm, so you can go there pretty much every week and get to see a new magician every time. They invite many different magicians to do magic at the tables and on the weekends they have stage shows too.

10月にスウェーデンに帰った。マジックバーストックホルムに何回も行けた。毎週新しいマジシャンを呼んでいるから、何回も行っても毎回違うマジシャンのマジック見れる。テーブルマジックもあるし、週末にステージマジックショーもある。

The first night I went there, it was Thursday and there was to be a stage show. I was there alone and decided to have dinner. The food is really good, and by Swedish standards not very expensive (compared to Japan, all restaurants in Sweden are very expensive, though).

最初行った時に木曜日だった。木金土にステージショーがあるから、晩御飯を食べて、ステージショー見ようと思った。食べ物も美味しい。サービスがめちゃくちゃ遅いがそれ以外がいい店だ。スウェーデンのレストランにしたら、別に高くもないし。日本と比べたら、スウェーデンの普通なレストランが結構高いけど。

A fairly young magician called Gaston came to my table and showed me some closeup magic. He did a version of the triumph card trick and then made the whole deck disappear from inside the card box, leaving only my signed card. He was very funny. And very nice.

若いマジシャンのガストンさんがテーブルに来て、クローズアップマジックを見せてくれた。有名なカードマジックのトライアンフとか、トランプを箱に入れて、僕のカード以外全部箱から消えるマジックとか。かなり面白い人だった。優しかったし。

While I was eating, I also saw the magician Tom Stone sitting at another table. The first time I visited Magic Bar Stockholm, Tom Stone was doing magic at the tables. He is also pretty famous in Japan, after having been featured on a New Year magic special. All my magician friends know of him. They do not read English, so they have not read his books, though. Which is convenient for me, because I can read English and then learn tricks that none of the other magicians around here are performing (and in our magic bar we don't do the same tricks as the other magicians, since the guests will see both my magic and the other peoples' magic), haha.

食べていた時に近くのテーブルにスウェーデン人のマジシャンのトム・ストーンもいた。初めてマジックバーストックホルムに行った時にトムストーンがテーブルホッピングをしていた。日本のテレビにも出たことある。トムストーンの本を2冊買って、日本人の友達のマジシャンが英語を読まないから他の人とかぶらないネタの勉強になるね、ｗ。

Anyway, when he was ordering a beer in the bar, and my table was close to the bar counter, he looked at me and then said: "Jonas?" I said that indeed I am Jonas, and he continued: "I am sorry I did not make the connection quicker". I am still not clear on how he made the connection at all, so I do not think he has anything to apologize for, haha. I have seen him twice before, once when he was giving a guest lecture at my old university (and I had not started doing magic), and once before in Magic Bar Stockholm, but I never told him my name (or talked to him). I once sent him an e-mail asking about something in a book he wrote that I was reading, and he sent a very polite and helpful reply. In the e-mail I of course wrote my name, but there was no photo or anything like that.

僕のテーブルがバーのカウンターの近くだった。トムストーンがバーでビールを頼んで待たされた時に、よく僕の方見ているなぁと思った。目を合わせたら「ヨーナス？」って聞かれた。「はい、ヨーナスですけど…」と答えたら、「すぐ分からなくてごめんね」と言われた。どうやって分かったか、未だに分からないから謝らなくても全然いいと思うけど、笑。トムストーンを2回見たことがあった。マジックバーストックホルムでテーブルホッピングしていた時と僕がスウェーデンの大学に通っていた時に1回トムストーンが心理とマジックのかぶるところの発表をゲストとしてしていた時にも見にいった（僕がまだマジックをやっていなかった時）。2回とも、僕は名前を言っていない。1回メールでトムストーンに質問したことがある。丁寧に返信してくれた。メールに名前が勿論書いてあったが写真とかがなかった。

I guess he may have made the connection after seeing this blog, which has both my name and photos (he did write a comment here once). It is still quite impressive to make the connection, though. He also talked to me a bit and mentioned things that other people in the magic bar (who I have told my name) probably do not know, so he did indeed seem to know that I was the one that sent that e-mail etc. That might be the thing that surprised me most in Magic Bar Stockholm this trip, haha.

まぁ、このブログで写真も名前も見たと思うがそれでよく分かったね！１回確かにブログにコメントをしたことがある。ちょっと話したら、日本で何をやっているとか、名前以外も色々覚えていたんだ。マジックバーストックホルムのスタッフで僕の名前を知っている人がいたかもしれないがトムストーンの話の中の内容はメールやブログにしかない話が多かった。今回のマジックバーストックホルムの一番驚いたことはトムストーンの「ヨーナス？」だったかも、ｗ。

After I finished my dinner, the stage show started. Gaston did some funny things on stage. He did some optical illusions (the shrinking head illusion), some magic, and some juggling. It was all good, but I laughed most during the juggling segments were he was eating the apples he was juggling with and getting lots of sticky apple parts all over the place.

晩御飯を食べ終わったら、ステージショーの時間だった。最初はガストンさんが笑えるパフォーマンスで色々やった。面白い目の錯覚も使っていたし、面白いマジックもやっていたし、ジャグリングもやっていたし、色々出来る人だね。一番笑ったのが最後にりんご3個でジャグリングしながらりんごを全部食べる。汚～い感じだった。

Next, the mentalist Ray Matson also did a stage show. He did a card trick that I sometimes do here in Japan, he had a very nice presentation using a blank deck of cards, he did the torn and restored newspaper in a mentalist way, and did a Russian Roulette thing with a spectator's iPhone, and much more.

その後、メンタリストのレイ・マットソンさんもステージショーをやってくれた。僕もたまにやっている予言のカードマジックをやっている！って見てちょっと興奮した。他にブランクカードをきれいに使ったマジックもあったし、メンタリストの破いた新聞の復活のマジックもやっていたし、最後にお客さんのアイフォーンでロシアンルーレットもやった。

Magic Bar Review: Stage show at Magic Bar Stockholm

I have been to Magic Bar Stockholm several times before (previous review of Magic Bar Stockholm). On Fridays and Saturdays they have a stage show, but I have never managed to catch one of these before. Usually I come to Sweden in July and then the stage show is closed for the summer (though they still show you table magic) and when I came here in the autumn once, the whole place was reserved for some party the only night I was in Sweden... But this time I managed to see the stage show, and it was great!

前にもマジックバーストックホルムに行ったことがある（前のマジックバーストックホルムのレビューはこちら）。金土曜日にステージショーもあるんだ。僕が前に行った時に7月のせいでステージショーが休みだったし、11月に行った時に貸切だったし、今まで見ていなかった。今回やっとステージショー見れた！

Gunnar

Normally, there is no table charge at Magic Bar Stockholm, you only pay for the things you order. On nights with the stage show, there is a small charge for watching the show too (though if you come early, eat and leave before the show starts I think you do not have to pay the charge on days with stage shows either). I met a man called Gunnar in the wardrobe, who gave me a sticker showing that I had paid for the show.

普段はチャージがないんだがステージショーの日はステージショーのチャージがある。早く来て、ステージショーが始まる前に帰る人はチャージ払わなくても大丈夫みたいだ。チャージがスウェーデンの物価にして結構やすい。今円安になってて、2000円もしなかった。円高の時なら、1400円くらいになる。玄関でグンナーという面白いおじさんにお金を払って、ジャケットにステージショーチャージのシールを貼って貰った。

Then I went inside and got a table very close to the stage, which was good. There was a special "show night" menu, with three choices of two dish dinners. I picked the one called Houdini, which had marinated salmon with fried bread as a first dish, and meat with ratatouille and french fries for the second. I was there so early so that when I finished my food there was still about an hour until the stage show would start, so I also ordered a dessert. All the food was good (it has always been good when I have been to Magic Bar Stockholm before too).

中に入って、ステージのすぐ近くのテーブルに案内された。ステージショーの日に特別なメニューになっているみたいで、ディナーコースのメニューしかなかった。フーディーニというメニューにした。最初はフライのパンとマリネのサーモンが出てきた。メインはステーキ・ラタトゥイユ・ポテトフライだった。結構早く着いたから、食べ終わった時にステージショーが始まるまではやく1時間があったので、デザートも頼んでみた。料理が美味しかった（前に行った時にも毎回美味しかった）。

While I was waiting for my food, the magician Anders Fox came to my table and did some magic for me. He did card tricks for me. When I watched him perform for the people at the table next to mine, he also did some rubber band magic tricks, and the "professor's nightmare" rope trick. He was pretty funny, and had a very energetic performance character. He came back to my table after I had finished all my food and did some more magic. He did a "do as I do" magic trick, with a funny presentation style. At some other tables he did a visitors card trick and some mental style effects.

食べ物を待っている時に、アンダーズ・フォックスというマジシャンがテーブルに来て、マジックを見せてくれた。カードマジックを見せてくれた。彼が隣のテーブルでマジックをやっているのもちょっと見た。輪ゴムのマジックや３本ロープのマジックもやっていた。喋りが面白かった。ちょっとうざいキャラというか、かなり元気なキャラでやっていた。僕が食べ終わった時にも、もう１回マジックを見せて貰った。ドゥ・アズ・アイ・ドゥ的なカードマジックだった。他のテーブルでビジターズみたいなカードマジックも、メンタリズム的なカードマジックもやっていた。

When I went to the toilet, Gunnar in the wardrobe asked me if I knew a certain song (which I did) and who made it famous (I did not). He told me the name of the singer, and asked me to yell that to him when he asked for it on stage later, in case no one else knew the name of the singer.

トイレに行った時に、またグンナーさんとちょっと話した。歌を歌いだして、この曲知っている？って聞かれた。知っている曲だったが歌手の名前やいつ流行っていたかは知らなかった。それ全部教えて貰って、ステージから「この曲は誰の曲？」って聞かれたら、他の人が答え出さないと言って欲しいって言われた。よし、サクラになろう、ｗ。

Anders Fox

At slightly after nine, it was time for the stage show to start. By then, all the tables in the room with the stage were more or less full, and there were some people standing next to bar too. First, Anders Fox did half an hour of stage magic. He asked a woman to join him on stage and did a rope trick with her. A rope was cut in two, but the ropes never seemed to become equal length no matter how many times they were cut to size. The rope was cut and then restored again, etc. He then asked four men to come up on stage, and I was one of the four selected. We got to sit in a ring, lay our heads down in the knees of the guy behind us, and then the magician pulled away our chairs and we were locked in a weird "floating without balance" position. He finished by filling a glass with water and turning it upside down without the water falling out of the glass.

21時過ぎに、ステージショーが始まった。ステージがある部屋（一番広い部屋）はもう満席に近い感じだった。カウンターで立ってて見ている人もいた。最初、アンダーズ・フォックスがステージでも30分くらいマジックを見せてくれた。女の人のお客さんとロープマジックをやった。切ったロープがなかなか切り揃えないとか、切ったロープが復活したとか。その後、男4人のお客さんに手伝って欲しいと言った。僕も選ばれたから、ステージに登った。輪の形で4人で座って、頭を自分後ろになった人の膝にした。マジシャンがその後椅子全部取っちゃったから、不思議なように浮いていたというか、変な形になった。最後のマジックは、グラスに水を入れて、逆様にしても水が落ちなかった。

Next, Gunnar from the wardrobe came on stage and said that it was an intermission now, and that during this break he was going to tell us something. He then started doing very impressive things with his voice, like talking with an echo, talking very very fast, talking as if playing the sound backwards, etc. He sang some songs and "showed" that if you sing a song backwards it becomes a song in Russian. I got to yell out the answer to his question regarding who had made a certain song popular, and what year that was.

次、グンナーさんがステージに出て、休憩だって話をした。声の芸を持ってて、色々な変なことし始めた。ハイスピードの喋り方とか、スウェーデン語の曲を逆読みしたらロシア語になるよって話をして歌を逆さに歌った。凄い芸だった。僕はサクラになって、ばっちり質問を答えたし。

Finally, Håkan Berg and his pianist Micke Svan (who played piano during the show) came on stage and did an extremely funny show. First, Håkan Berg did a fairly long stage magic show in the character of someone who believes he is the world's greatest magician but who makes almost every thing go wrong. Very funny. Then they did some singing, and some stand up comedy. The songs were nice, and the jokes very funny. There was some more magic, more songs, and more comedy. They were called back for an encore after they finished, and they did one more song then. I laughed so much it hurt. Håkan Berg is a genius.

最後にホーカン・ベリーとミケ・スワンがステージに出た。最高に面白かった。ミケさんがピアノを弾いていた。ホーカンさんが最初マジックをやり始めた。自分が凄いと思っているが全部失敗するマジシャンの演技だった。お腹が痛くなるほど笑った。その後、歌や漫才もやっていた。歌も上手だったし、ミケさんのピアノも上手だったし、漫才も面白かったし、凄く良かった。他にもちょっとマジックまたやった。最後にアンコールに呼ばれて、歌もう１つやってくれた。お笑いの天才。最高。

Summary:
Location: A little bit off but easily accessible by subway (2 minutes walk from the subway station).
Type of magic: stage show on weekends, close up every day (closed on Sundays)
Quality of magic: good, though I guess it may vary since there are different magicians working every week.
Cost: 125 SEK in stage show charge (less than 2000 yen), dinner course from 350 SEK (5000 yen or so).
Interior: Very nice.
Staff: Nice, but pretty slow service.
Overall impression: The close up magic was good but pretty standard. The stage show has two different magicians (or teams of magicians) each weekend, and you get to see two short shows. When I was there, one show was good, one was excellent.

スタッフ：優しいが注文や食べ物持ってくるのが結構遅い。
全体的な印象：クローズアップも良かったがそこまで特別でもなかった。ステージショーは毎週待つマジシャン2組がやるから短いショー２つ見れる。僕が行った時に１つが面白かった。もう１つが凄く面白かった。

Street magic in Stockholm

I was walking around in Stockholm looking for a new pair of shoes and passed a table that said "Magic Show". Just around the corner from a big cinema complex, a young guy was doing magic for tips. I asked him to show me something and he was happy to do so. While he was showing me some magic tricks, more people stopped to see what was going on, and after a while he had quite a crowd.

ストックホルムで歩き回ってて、新しい靴を軽く探していた時に「マジックショー」と書いてあるサインのテーブルを見かけた。ストックホルムの大きな映画館の隣に若いお兄さんがおひねり下さいって感じでマジックをやっていた。何か見せてくれますかって聞いてみたら、色々見せてもらった。僕にマジックを見せ始めたら、他の人も観に寄ってきた。

The magician who was called Robert Ace first talked about Houdini having a challenge where he believed no one could fool him if Houdini was allowed to watch the same trick three times but the now very famous magician Dai Vernon fooled him with a trick that is called the ambitious card (a card is put into the middle of the deck and comes to the top by magic). Then he showed me his own version of the ambitious card, and the card came to the top, flew to the  magician's mouth, and finally came out of a sealed compartment of his wallet.

ロバート・エイスというお兄さんだった。最初ハリー・フーディーニという有名なマジシャンの話をした。同じマジックを３回見たら、絶対見破れるとフーディーニが言っていたがダイ・バーノンという有名なマジシャンが同じカードマジックを三回見せてフーディーニを騙した時があった。真ん中に入れてあったのに上にカードがトランプの上がって来るマジックだった。ロバートさんがそのマジックの自分のバージョンを見せてくれた。上に上がって来たり、マジシャンの口に入ったりして、最後にマジシャンの財布から出てきた。

He seemed a bit nervous, and sometimes his triple lift or palm would flash a bit, but he was very nice. He then did some coin tricks with a Swedish 5 kr coin, which ended with a jumbo 5 kr. Then he did an egg bag routine where a spectator made an egg appear in a bag that the same spectator had checked and determined to be empty. Finally he had three different spectators each pick a card, and then they held on to their own cards trapped between the palms of both hands. The magician the took away the cards from two spectators by magic and gave them to the last spectator. When the spectators opened their hands, two now had blank cards and one spectator had three cards instead of one, which they were all very surprised by.

ちょっと緊張していたみたいで、たまにトリプルがちょっとずれたりパームがちょっと漏れたりしていたが丁寧にマジックを見せてくれた。スウェーデンの５クローネのコインを使って、ワンコインのマジックをして、最後にジャンボの５クローネが出てきた。エッグ・バッグを使って、観客の女の子がその袋の中に何も入っていないのを自分で確認したのに、その女の子がマジックを書けたら、袋からたまごが出てきた。最後に観客３人を呼んで、皆１枚ずつを引いた。皆自分の引いたカードを手で挟んでいた時にマジシャンがマジックで２人のカードを取って、３人目の手に入れた。皆何を持っているか、確認したら、観客２人が真っ白のトランプを持っていた。３人目の観客が１枚ではなく３枚も持っていた。

After he finished, he gave me his business card and we talked for a minute or two. When I said I live in Japan he said a few phrases in Japanese to me too. It turns out he is going to go to Noda in Japan to train some form of Japanese martial art (that he has been training in Sweden too) and had learned some Japanese for the trip. If I remember correctly, that would be the same Japanese martial art that I once got a black belt in a long time ago. So that was a funny chance meeting with many strange coincidences.

終わってから、名詞も貰った。ちょっと話してくれたし。僕が日本に住んでいるって言ったら、ロバートさんが「日本語分かりますか？」とか、簡単な日本語を言い出した。これから、野田に日本の武術を勉強しに行くから日本語もちょっと勉強したそうだ。何の武術をしに行くか言っていなかったが野田って言われたら僕が初段までやっていたのと同じだと思う。

Magic Bar Review: Magic Bar Stockholm

In Stockholm, there is no magic bar culture like in Japan where I live. In December 2009, Sweden's first (Northern Europe's first) magic bar was opened, however. It is called "Magic Bar Stockholm", but it is perhaps more like a restaurant than a bar.


ストックホルムでは、日本みたいなマジックバーの文化がないんだ。2009年の12月にスウェーデンの初めて（北欧の初めて）のマジックバーがオープンしたけど。マジックバーストックホルムという店だがバーというよりレストランだ。

They serve very nice food, and have lots of tables. There are several rooms, and in the summer there are also lots of tables outside. During weekends, there is a stage magic show on a small stage in the largest room, though I have never managed to get there on a weekend when there was still stage magic going on (the stage magic takes summer vacation in July, which is when I usually visit Sweden). There is also table magic, with a magician coming to your table and doing a 10 to 15 minute magic show. A lot of magicians perform at Magic Bar Stockholm, and there is usually a new magician every week.

本格的なフードメニューがあって、テーブルが多い。部屋が４つくらいあって、夏に外にもテーブルが置いてある。週末にステージマジックショーもあるそうだが僕はまだ観たことがない。僕がだいたい7月にスウェーデンに行くが7月にステージマジックショーは休みだ。他にテーブルを回ってマジックを見せてくれるマジシャンもいる。テーブルで10～15分くらいのマジックを見せて貰える。沢山のマジシャンがマジックバーストックホルム出ているんだ。だいたい毎週違うマジシャンが出る。

The interior of Magic Bar Stockholm is very beautiful. Each room has a different color scheme, and they have many strange decorations on the walls. Even the toilet is fun to visit. The food is good, and the prices are not high if you compare to normal restaurants in Sweden (though Sweden is expensive compared to Japan when it comes to food).

インテリアがきれいだ。各部屋が違う色で、色々な不思議な飾り物が置いてある。トイレもきれいで面白い。食べ物が美味しい。スウェーデンの物価にして、安いし（日本のレストランと比べたら、スウェーデンのレストランが高いけど）。

The magicians I have seen there were all very nice. The waiting staff are also nice when you get hold of them, but sometimes it is very hard to find anyone to take your order, or to tell you if you can sit at some table etc. In Japan, if no one acknowledges your presence within a few seconds of you entering a restaurant or bar, they are probably closed, so it was a bit unnerving for me when I got in there and no one seemed to notice me for several minutes. I no longer know what to do in Sweden, haha. Is it OK to just sit down at some empty looking table? And how do you get a menu if no one notices you? So the service is a bit slow (showing up with the food after you ordered can be slow too), but that is my only complaint so far I think.

今まで観たマジシャンが皆良かった。ウェータースタッフも優しいがなかなかいない時も多い。どのテーブルに座れたいいとか、注文したい時とか、誰もいないから不安になる時が何回かあった。日本の素晴らしい文化に慣れすぎて、スウェーデンでどうすればいいか分からない、笑。スウェーデン人の知り合いに聞いて、スウェーデンにしてもマジックバーストックホルムのスタッフの頑張る気というか、サービスのレベルというか、特別に遅いんだ。この文句以外はマジックバーストックホルムの悪いところがないと思うけど。

I have been to magic bar Stockholm 4 times. The first time I visited with my parents, my brother and his girlfriend. We all ordered food, and got very nice food (there were some mix-ups with the orders, but everything turned out fine in the end). At that time, Tom Stone was doing table magic. I have seen him once before when he gave a lecture on magic and psychology at my old university in Stockholm (when I was still a student). Tom Stone is quite famous in Japan too, at least among magicians. Seeing him live again now that I have started doing magic myself was nice. He is one of the magicians I admire a lot. He did some rubber band magic, some coin magic, and some card magic for us. Very nice.

今4回もマジックバーストックホルムに行ったことがある。初めて行った時に両親と弟と弟の彼女と5人で行った。皆料理も注文して、色々な美味しいもの食べれた（スタッフの注文ミスもあって、ちょっと複雑なことがあったが結局問題なかった）。その時に日本のテレビも出たトム・ストーンさんがマジックを見せてくれた。前に僕が行ったスウェーデンの大学で一回トム・ストーンのマジックと心理の関係の発表も見たことがあって、今自分でマジックしてて又見れる機会で嬉しかった。尊敬しているマジシャンの1人で。輪ゴム・コイン・カードのマジックを見せてくれた。面白かった。

One year later, I went to the magic bar alone. A young magician called John-Henry was doing table magic, and he fairly quickly guessed that I was a magician too. You can usually tell, because people who know magic are surprised at the "wrong" timing, haha. He did some funny magic with ropes/strings full of bad Swedish puns, a lot of magic based on misdirection and stealing things off the table (like his own cards, my glass) or his own shoes. He later introduced me to group of famous Swedish magicians who were also drinking in the magic bar the same evening too. These magicians were also very nice! I was especially impressed by Charlie Caper being able to do bad jokes in Japanese (he toured as a street performer for a few months in Japan and learned a lot of Japanese then) and by Anders Moden producing a beer bottle out of his mouth.

次の夏またスウェーデンに帰っていたからもう1回マジックバーストックホルムに行った。今回1人で行った。ジョン・ヘンリーというマジシャンがテーブルに来てマジックを見せてくれた。早いうちに「お兄さんもマジックやっていますよね？」と聞かれた。マジシャン同士なら、だいたい分かる、笑。マジシャンがおかしなタイミングで驚くんだ。ジョン・ヘンリーさんがスウェーデン語のオヤジギャグだらけの紐のマジック・ミスディレクションを使ってテーブルからトランプや僕のグラスをスチールするマジックや自分の靴を出すマジック、色々な面白いマジックを見せてくれた。後でスウェーデンの有名なマジシャンのグループを紹介してくれたし。暇な時に皆マジックバーで気軽で集まって他の暇なマジシャンと飲むみたい。その人たちも優しかった。チャーリー・ケーパーさんが日本語で喋りだして、日本の古いお笑いネタとかをやったことにビックリした、笑。2～3ヶ月関西で大道芸生活をしたことがあるそうだ。その時に色々な日本語を覚えた。復活するコーラを考えたアンダーザ・モデーンさんが口から瓶ビールを出した時にも驚いた。

I went back the next week and then Peter Grönlund, a mentalist, was showing magic. Since I saw all the famous magicians drinking at the magic bar again and ended up sitting at their table, I did not get to see Peter Grönlund do magic for me, but I did sneak a look when he did magic for the table next to ours. It was interesting to see a mentalist do walk around magic, and he did some fairly standard magic tricks like the "Triumph" card trick, but with a mentalist presentation. He also did more pure mentalism effects, like having a user grab a bunch of cards and then walk with small steps towards the magician (outdoors, where they were quite a bit apart) and count the number of steps separating them. Which turned out to be the same as the number of cards she had grabbed.

次の週も又行った。ピーター・ゴローンルンドというメンタリストが働いていた。また有名人マジシャンたちが飲みに来ていたから僕も彼らのテーブルに座って、マジックを見せて貰わなかったが隣のテーブルでマジックをやっていた時によこから観た。メンタリストがどんなマジックを見せるか、気になっていた。結構普通なカードマジック（トラインフとか）をメンタリズムの喋りでやっていた。本格的なメンタリズムネタのもやったけど。外でお客さんがトランプをがばっと取って、だいぶ離れたマジシャンまで歩いていく。18歩で着いたお客さんがまさかの18枚のトランプを持っていた。そういう感じ。

Half a year later, I was in Stockholm in the winter (for a business trip) and figured I had a chance of finally seeing the stage magic show too. It was not to be, however, since the place was booked for a private party the only day with a stage show that I was in Stockholm. I went there on my last evening in Stockholm, though, and got to see Mr Dannyman do magic at the table. He did rope magic, the Chinese rings, card tricks, etc. Very much a gentleman.

その半年後、出張でスウェーデンに来ていた。夏ではないからやっとステージマジックショー観れると思ったが僕がいた日、店が貸切だった！僕のストックホルムの最後の最後の日に貸切ではなかったが平日だったからステージショーもなかった。ミスター・ダニマンというマジシャンがテーブルマジックを見せてくれたけど。ロープやチャイナリングやカードマジックを見せて貰った。紳士のマジシャンだった。

Summary:
Location: Located in an area where there is not much else to do. With some effort you can walk from Djurgården, which has some other tourist attractions. Nice area, though.
Type of magic: Close up, but has stage magic on weekends too (except when I am in Sweden)
Quality of magic: Many different magicians perform, but everyone I have seen was very good.
Cost: Cheap (by Swedish standards). No cover charge, you pay standard prices for the food and drinks you order. I paid around 200 SEK (slightly more than 2000 yen) for a dinner and a dessert.
Interior: Very nice
Staff: nice, but the service is slow. The magicians were all very nice and funny.
Of special note: Serves food too (good food).
Overall impression: Very nice place, good food, good magic. Only complaint is that the service can be (very) slow.

場所：何もないところにあるが頑張れば、Djurgardenという色々な観光スポットがあるところから歩いて行ける。きれいな場所だが特に何も無い。
マジックの種類：クローズアップ。週末にステージマジックもある
マジックの質：沢山のマジシャンが働いているが今まで皆良かった。
値段：スウェーデンにしたら安い。チャージ無しで、頼んだ飲み物や食べ物の値段しか払わないし、普通のレストランの値段と変わらない。僕が2000円くらいで晩御飯とデザート食べた。
インテリア：きれい。各部屋のインテリアが違うし。
スタッフ：優しいがサービスが遅い。マジシャンが皆優しかったし、面白かった。
得点：本格的なフードメニュー。料理が普通に美味しい。
全体的な印象：良い店だ。御飯が美味しいし、マジックが面白いし、毎週新しいマジシャン見れるし。サービスがかなり遅い時があるのがマイナス点だがそれだけだと思う。
